Egerton to host ploughing contest in November

Egerton University will play host to the 64th World Ploughing Contest (WPC) in November 2017, where over 250 delegates are expected to compete for the top ploughman prize.  The international ploughing event was last held in Kenya in 1995 .

Over 20 countries are set to participate in the contest including USA Canada, Switzerland, Australia, Belgium ,Netherlands, Wales,  Ireland, France and Finland , Spain, Denmark, Australia, Macedonia, Norway and New Zealand. Kenya and South Africa are the only participants from Africa.

Locally, the ploughing competitions have been organised by the Kenya Ploughing Organisation (KPO) that was established in 1966 under the Agricultural Society of Kenya.  The ploughing heats are organised in all the 16 ASK branches country wide, and 2 winners from the national level represent Kenya in the international competition.
